When researching individuals from the UK, possibly using sites such as Find My Past & Ancestry, you may locate details relating to an individual where it may be useful to obtain a copy of a Birth, Death or Marriage Certificate from the General Register Office & Scotland's People, as these Certificates often contain other useful details.
On Birth Certificates there are sections for;
Date & Place Of Birth
Childs Full Name and Sex
Fathers Full Name, Place Of Birth and Occupation
Mothers Full Name, Place Of Birth, Occupation, Maiden Name and Usual Residential Address
Informants Full Name, Qualification (Link To The Child) and Usual Residential Address
Birth Certificates prior to 1969 were Landscape in orientation, but in 1969 changed to be in Portrait orientation. Whilst in 1984 Birth Certificates started recording the Mother's Occupation and the Parents' Places Of Birth, prior to that they were not recorded.
On Death Certificates there are sections for;
Date & Place Of Death
Dead Person Full Name, Sex and Maiden Name (if applicable)
Date & Place Of Birth
Occupation and Usual Residential Address
Informants Full Name, Qualification (Link To The Deceased) and Usual Residential Address
Cause Of Death
On Marriage Certificates (original / older style) there are sections for;
