Search Tasks 2 - Other Search Engines

Without making any direct contact with any individuals identified during this exercise, complete the following tasks, using the useful links on the Search Engines page of our website at www.uk-osint.net.

You should spend at least a few minutes on each task but if you are struggling ask for assistance or move on to the next task.


1. Using the links under the Country Specific Search Engines heading, see what search engines and sites are available for countries including China, India, Russia and South Africa, searching for things like hotels, restaurants or vehicle hire in the capital cities of those countries.


2. Using the link for the Bing search engine listed under the Other Popular Search Engines heading, checkout how you can filter searches on it, then search for yourself or a close friend and compare with the results Google gave you in the previous search exercise, searching for both web content and images.


3. Now conduct a fresh search using the Bing search engine, searching for Taunton Town Football Club and then check-out some of the results by their cached pages.


4. Now alter your search, to search just within linkedin.com, to identify any individuals who are linked to Taunton Town Football Club in Bridgwater.


5. Using the link for the Yandex search engine listed under the Other Popular Search Engines heading, checkout how you can filter searches on it, then search for yourself or a close friend and compare with the results Google gave you in the previous search exercise, searching for both web content and images.


6. Now conduct a fresh search using the Yandex search engine, searching for the Cowdray Park Polo Club and then check-out some of the results by their cached pages.


7. Now alter your search, to search just within linkedin.com, to identify any individuals who are linked to the Cowdray Park Polo Club.


8. Using the link for the DuckDuckGo search engine listed under the Anonymous Search Engines heading, checkout how you can filter searches on it, then search for yourself, or a family member, or a close friend and compare with results Google gave you in the other exercise, searching for both web content and images.


9. Now conduct a fresh search using the DuckDuckGo search engine, searching for Coburn McKenna, a firm of accountants based in Liverpool. Then filter this search, to search just within linkedin.com, to identify any individuals who are linked to this company.


10. Now repeat some of these searches using the using a few of the Meta Search Engines listed, to compare it with how a single search engine operates, searching for both web content and images.
